HOW TO MAINTAIN HUMAN HAIR WEAVES

Of late, we have recieved so many questions on how to maintain weaves, a question that is repeatedly asked laregly due to the fact that there are so many theories out there regarding the proper maintainance of weaves. So Eland House put together these consistent tips from the many articles and bloggs on maintaining Human Hair Weaves on the net.......

NATURAL HAIR should be shampooed and conditioned regularly. ....Dirt, natural hair oils, styling products and even sweat are agents that can tangle and mat the your own hair. They will cause further problems for HAIRPIECES. Although the cleanliness of the hair extension will prolong its use, you should not clean it too frequently or with shampoos containing harsh detergents. Excessive use of styling products and heat should also be avoided. These are elements that will shorten the "life" of the hair extension. You should also take care to condition your own hair underneath to prevent any damage to your own hair; the design is only half of the hairstyle.
2 The hair extensions should be gently detangled using a wide tooth comb everyday and before going to bed. Even more importantly, hair must be detangled before it is washed.
3 Never rub or massage the hair extension while washing; the shampoo water should just run through the hair. If towel drying, gentle squeeze out excess water and blot with a towel. Do not rub or roll the hair in the towel.
4 While detangling dry hair, water should not be used alone on the extension. A solution of water and conditioner in a spray bottle is an inexpensive way to make your own detangling solution. Otherwise, we recommend a good detangling solution that is applied before combing the hair.
5 If curling or blow drying the extension, avoid any area where heat sensitive adhesives have been used to affix the extension. Also, when blow drying curly hair, we recommend the use of a diffuser.
6 Clients should also be advised to dry hair thoroughly before going to bed. Long extensions should be braided into one big braid and short hair tied in a scarf to prevent tangling and to maintain style.

COLORING HUMAN HAIR
Natural hair color is actually composed of many colors rather than the mono-toned color the eye may see. Clients with hair color other than black and dark brown might be more difficult to match with solid tone extensions. This can be solved in a number of ways.
1 The easiest solution is to blend two or more colors to match your own hair color. This is probably the safest method for you to either match your own hair color or add contrast.
2 Another solution is to dye the your hair to match the color of the extensions.
3 If you want to avoid a chemical process, then the extension itself can be dyed to match the client's hair. This practice is generally discouraged by most human hair manufacturers as the hairpiece has already been chemically processed. However, if the hair extension must be colored, dye extensions by depositing color from a lighter to darker color. A strand test should always be performed before the whole hairpiece is dyed.
